Greg Biffle's social media mind games and number obsession
Over his 15 year career with Roush Fenway Racing, Greg Biffle wasn't known as the fun-loving, joke-cracking type of guy in his media appearances. Instead, he was quiet and reserved when in front of the camera for the most part.
That's all changed in recent weeks since he mutually parted ways with RFR at the conclusion of the 2016 season. Now, Biffle has constantly cracked jokes on social media and started playing some mind games with fans.
Among his antics, a peculiar obsession with the No. 69 has emerged. In the vein of a giddy 8th-grader mixed with an episode of LOST, Biffle has used every possible sighting of the number to allude to it as a clue that he might end up with it on his hood in 2017.
It started out with a simple response to a fan's tweet about his plans for next year when Biffle simply replied with the number when asked "Who are you driving for in 2017 and what is your car number".
From there it has been a roller-coaster ride that has led the masses of the Internet to come up with conspiracy theories if Biffle is bored in his unemployment and simply trolling us, or if there is some truth to these hidden messages.
A possible sponsor was the next clue to emerge as the coincidences became too spooky to ignore.
As the week has progressed, Biffle has taken every opportunity to remind us that he is either: A) getting in touch with his inner teenager at age 46 (do the math, he was born in 1969), or B) in the middle of one of the most elaborate news announcements the Twittersphere has ever seen.
The numbers, the clues, it all has to add up to something, right? My best guess is that Biffle is going to drive the No. 69 car, but not in NASCAR, in his Triple B 100 junker race that he has annually at his mountain property, the Triple B Ranch, in the foothills of the South Mountains in North Carolina.
Whatever decision The Biff decides to make going forward with his NASCAR career, this journalist has enjoyed the offseason antics from his social media accounts and hope to see more from him in the future.
