Dale Earnhardt Jr. on plans for family with wife Amy: 'We'll be awesome parents'

Four-time NASCAR Premier Series champion Jeff Gordon did not pull any punches when he sat down with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his wife, Amy Earnhardt, for an exclusive FOX Sports interview recently.

Very early in the interview, which first aired on FOX prior to the Daytona 500 and was re-aired on "NASCAR Race Hub," Gordon point-blank asked the newly-married couple if we could "expect to see little Earnhardts running around anytime soon."

"We're gonna try our best,"Amy said without missing a beat.

And Junior concurred that there could be little Juniors running around sooner rather than later.

"We'd love to have a family. I know it's a lot of work and certainly changes your life completely. But we'd love to have a family -- and I think we'll be awesome parents," said Dale Jr., who is 42 years old and drives the No. 88 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports.

Whatever happens, it was very obvious in the interview that marriage is agreeing with NASCAR's winner of the Most Popular Driver Award for 14 years running.

"Amy definitely has had a real positive effect on me. She's affected every part of my life in a good way," said Earnhardt, who finished 37th after wrecking out of the season-opening Daytona 500.

It was Earnhardt's first race since missing the last 18 races of the 2016 season because of a concussion, and he said he was fine after the latest accident.

Earnhardt will be back on track today at Atlanta Motor Speedway for a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice at noon ET (live on FS1). Qualifying for this Sunday's Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 will be at 5:45 p.m. ET today, also live on FS1.

Sunday's pre-race coverage on FOX will begin at 1 p.m., with the race to follow at approximately 2:30 p.m. ET.
