AJ Allmendinger's No. 47 team hit with lug-nut violation

HAMPTON, Ga. -- NASCAR officials discovered three unsecured lug nuts on AJ Allmendinger's No. 47 JTG Daugherty Chevrolet following Sunday's Monster Energy Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Per the NASCAR rule book, Allmendinger and team now faces a 35-point penalty and $65,000 fine.

Crew chief Randall Burnett could also be suspended three races for the violation.

Allmendinger finished 26th in the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.

Penalties from the Atlanta race weekend are expected to be announced mid-week.
