AJ Allmendinger takes laps around the Charlotte Motor Speedway 'Roval'

Charlotte Motor Speedway's new "Roval" made the biggest headlines when NASCAR released the 2018 Monster Energy Series schedule late Tuesday afternoon.

The track's 13-turn, 2.4-mile infield road course will play host to one of the playoff races next season, becoming the first road course in the 10-race championship battle.

After the exciting announcement, CMS released a video of AJ Allmendinger taking a few laps around the new course.

The race is scheduled for Sept. 30. and will also serve as the first elimination race of the playoffs.
