As the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Kansas Speedway for Saturday night’s SpongeBob SquarePants 400, there’s no better time to look back on a memorable Kansas race from years gone by.
For this Throwback Thursday, we remember Joe Nemechek’s dramatic last-lap battle with Ricky Rudd in October 2004.
Nemechek, starting from the pole in the No. 01 U.S. Army-sponsored Chevrolet, led 41 laps on the day and edged Rudd at the finish to capture his fourth and most likely final win in NASCAR’s top series.
