Denny Hamlin won the 2016 Daytona 500, his first ever at the storied race. In what was the closest finish in the event's 58-year history, Hamlin edged-out Martin Truex Jr. by ten-hundredths of a second. The 2016 Daytona 500 took place on February 21 at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. Also known as the "Great American Race" and often coined the "Super Bowl of NASCAR," the 200-lap race is regarded as the most important of the NASCAR series. The first ever Daytona 500 was held in 1959, and was won by Lee Petty. Richard Petty currently holds the record for most Daytona 500 races won (7), giving Petty Enterprises the most amount of team wins (9).
