Video Details

WeatherTech SportsCar Championship: Filipe Albuquerque, Jaoa Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi in the No. 5 Prototype take the overall win in the 2018 Rolex 24 at Daytona.

ANNOUNCER: He's slowed well down, but it's not going to be enough, unless he plans to stop and then just inch it across the line, alla Dan Gurney, in 1962. But I don't think that's going to happen. He's going to have to complete another lap.

ANNOUNCER 2: He's very tight. This is all kind of winding up to really force the issue of pressure on this team.

ANNOUNCER 3: 14 seconds.

ANNOUNCER 2: Well, fortunately he's gonna be getting a bit of fuel save. The best way of saving fuel is rolling out of the power. They've been asking him to do that, so that should extend this fuel run a little bit. But, otherwise, they're kind of towards the max of what they've been achieving all day.

ANNOUNCER: Towards the max there and any more time on that engine, every other time it rolls over, every other RPM, I don't understand it.

ANNOUNCER 3: I don't either, I'm with you.

ANNOUNCER: Well, it's fate now. See what happens. Flare for the dramatic. GTLM Ryan Briscoe, continues to lead Bortolotti still in GT Daytona. He's got 16 seconds plus, over Alvaro Parente.

ANNOUNCER 2: Maybe they're just trying to extend that record, Bryan.

ANNOUNCER: Just making another lap, another 3 1/2 miles. Wow, just wow.

ANNOUNCER 3: Great redemption for Felipe Albuquerque. He could easily be celebrating back to back.

ANNOUNCER 2: Well, hang on a second.

ANNOUNCER: My palms are sweating sitting here. I can't even imagine what the crew is going through on the stand. 67 has just taken the white flag, but for Felipe Albuquerque, he's just got to make it through Speedway three and four, and he will have some redemption for that loss in 2017. Felipe Albuquerque, Mustang Sampling, Cadillac, they're going to win the Rolex 24 at Daytona. It's a second win for the rest of the team, actually a third win. And for Felipe Albuquerque, his first win at the Rolex 24. Mustang Sampling, and Cadillac celebrate. Climbing out, Felipe Albuquerque, is he even remembering it all, 2017, or is he just soaking all of this one in? Redemption.

ANNOUNCER 3: Wow, what a difference a year makes. Just are you left until the very-- that happened in-- closing minutes of that race.

FELIPE ALBUQUERQUE: Crazy, my mind is starting to do tricks on me, and especially after last year that we lost the race. Seven minutes to the end, I was thinking OK this was already for six hours, with overheating, like the street will look like a Christmas tree. But flashing everything, and I thought it's going to be the last minutes, but it hold on, I mean the Cadillac engine, it holds on with high temperatures, I can tell you that. And the tires, Continental tires, were just getting bigger because I was slow. Oh my god. Really hard. Not physically, but mentally, to keep the focus, and the GT drivers that I needed to pass, but then I was overheating anyway. Just great. Just great to finish. To get the win, especially after last year, and in interviews like, you're going to do that again? And, you know, finally made it with such hard conditions.

JOAO BARBOSA: I mean it was the longest five hours of my life. But, I can't-- I don't have enough words for-- that I can express, guys, I mean, we knew we had an issue. Luckily, we had quite a good lead with three laps. We managed that just perfectly. The guys in the stands, all the crew did a tremendous job. The most except the Cadillac, hold on to the end. I mean, we didn't need any more minutes. It came down to the end. And, Continental tires put on a great show. We're able to double stick the tires all the way through as well, so the Cadillac was perfect. So, we're really proud to be here again and, you know, it's just super hard. The last five hours were super hard with the engine problems, but it's a super strong car, I can tell you that.

CHRISTIAN FITTIPALDI: One can't drive the rest of his life. I'm not saying that I'm not going to drive anymore, but at some point in my racing career, I need to move on, I need a transition. And starting this next step, this way, couldn't of been better. As Felipe mentioned, especially after what happened to us last year. And I can't say enough for Mustang Sampling, Action Express, Cadillac, Continental, like everything worked absolutely perfect. We're completely overjoyed, this is a dream come true.
