A teenage motorcycle racer was killed during a support race at the Superbike World Championship meet at Australia’s Phillip Island Saturday.

Australian Oscar McIntyre, 17, was killed during the Australian Superstock 600 motorcycle race on the island about 87 miles (140 km) south-southeast of Melbourne, SPEED reported.
Motorcycling Australia confirmed the news in a press release issued after racing was canceled on Saturday afternoon, including the final round of qualifying for Sunday’s 22-lap Superbike World Championship race.
"Queenslander Oscar McIntyre has died following an incident . . . at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit this afternoon," the statement read. "McIntyre, 17, was immediately tended to by medical personnel after the incident, but his injuries proved to be fatal."
Two other riders were involved in the crash, which occurred about 2 p.m. local time.
"The other riders involved were Luke Burgess and Michael Lockhart. Burgess has now been released from the circuit’s medical center and Lockhart remains under observation with non life-threatening injuries," Motorcycling Australia said.
