Dean Wilson out for remainder of 2015 Supercross season

Dean Wilson came in to the 2015 season with arguably more credentials and potential than his three rookie counterparts.

Dean Wilson, one of the highly touted rookies making his move to full-time 450SX Class competition in 2015, announced Friday via Instagram that he will be forced to miss the remainder of the Monster Energy Supercross after tearing both his MCL and ACL at the Red Bull KTM test track on Thursday.

Wilson’s 2015 season hadn’t gotten off to the start he was hoping for, but he earned his best result of the season last weekend in Anaheim, finishing eighth, and was feeling confident in his ability to continue that upward progression. As an eight-time main event winner in the 250SX Class, a two-time runner-up for 250SX Class titles, and the 2011 AMA Pro Motocross 250 Class Champion, Wilson had arguably more credentials and potential than his three rookie counterparts coming into the season.

The opportunity to race alongside Ryan Dungey, and under the tutelage of Roger DeCoster, also worked in Wilson’s favor, but the transition to a new bike for the first time in his career combined with the pressures of the premier class translated into a frustrating start. Nevertheless, his raw speed made him a constant threat and his solid finish last weekend appeared to be what the Scottish-born rider needed to turn things around. Unfortunately we won’t be able to see how he progresses alongside fellow rookies Jason Anderson, Cole Seely and Blake Baggett.

There’s no timeframe on Wilson’s return to the track, but given the usual turnaround for an injury of this magnitude it could be upwards of sixth months, which would take Wilson into the late stages of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship this summer. It’s a likely bet Wilson won’t return to competition until the Monster Energy Cup in October.

As my results havnt been the greatest I was excited to keep building my results better and better each weekend. Yesterday was one of the toughest days I have had in my career. Just a normal Thursday training in the middle of my Moto when I made a mistake at the Ktm test track. I am so gutted and disappointed to say that I have torn my ACL and MCL and will be getting surgery next week. Yesterday while I was on the way to the hospital looking out the window at the mountains I was contemplating on quitting and just get a real job and live a normal life. It just seems to be a continuos streak lately and the disappointment is just killing me as a person…. But I know how much I am capable of achieving and how much I love this sport when things are going good . But sometimes it can just be so cruel. I have the best sponsors and people that I can't thank enough for there love and loyal support.. And thx to all my fans for the support to. I wish I could be racing this weekend. But god has another plan for me.. Thx to @ktmusa @redbull @ansrmx @ride100percent @atlasbrace @shoeihelmetsusa @alpinestars @toyotaescondido @maniacwrench @nlsportsinc @ridecalifornia @step1fitness
