James Hinchcliffe Named Runner-Up On ‘Dancing With The Stars’

Verizon IndyCar Series driver James Hinchcliffe came in second on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ on Tuesday behind Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez.

Helio Castroneves is still the only IndyCar driver with a Mirrorball Trophy. Fans of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars named Laurie Hernandez the Season 23 winner on Tuesday, with James Hinchcliffe as the runner-up.

The result was not necessarily a surprise; Hernandez was named the favorite to win when the cast was announced earlier this year.

If there was any surprise it might have been Hinchcliffe, who told reporters before Season 23 started that he wasn’t sure he’d make it through the first elimination and instead got himself all the way to the proverbial podium.

He and partner Sharna Burgess performed one final routine together during Tuesday’s season finale. Check out their fusion below:

While James Hinchcliffe might not have won Dancing with the Stars he’s certainly got plenty to be proud of. He exceeded his own expectations and those of many other people, and hopefully some of the millions of folks who watch DWTS might consider following Hinchcliffe over to his day job when the 2017 IndyCar season begins in March.

IndyCar fans might be disappointed that James Hinchcliffe isn’t the Season 23 champion of Dancing with the Stars, but he certainly put on a show as long as it lasted. Hinch was a great ambassador for the league on a major stage.

And for racing fans, seeing the way he was able to turn his near-fatal crash last year into some memorable performances was also plenty moving. Maybe Helio will let Hinch borrow his Mirrorball.
