Clay Millican tops NHRA qualifying at Texas Motorplex

ENNIS, Texas (AP) — Clay Millican took the No. 1 Top Fuel qualifying position Saturday in the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals at Texas Motorplex.

Millican topped the field with his second qualifying run Friday night, a 3.726-second pass at 328.54 mph. He's seeking his third victory of the season and fourth of his career.

"It will definitely be a different day tomorrow," Millican said. "This race track is phenomenal and both lanes are incredible. This is going to be fun. I mean, this is the ultimate playoffs for the fans with the cars running like that in this kind of heat and humidity. It's awesome."

Tommy Johnson Jr. topped the Funny Car field, Jeg Coughlin Jr. was fastest in Pro Stock, and Eddie Krawiec was No. 1 in Pro Stock Motorcycle in the third of six events in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship.

Johnson had a 3.918 at 321.73 during the final session Saturday in a Dodge Charger R/T. Coughlin had a 6.599 at 207.53 from Friday in a Chevrolet Camaro, and Krawiec had a 6.873 at 196.07 on a Harley-Davidson during the third qualifying session.
