Donovan, 31, is in the final year of his contract with LA. He took a three-month sabbatical following the Galaxy’s second consecutive MLS Cup, and then Donovan rejoined the club in February, and has scored seven goals so far this season, including four in the last three games.
The five-time MLS Cup champion and former league MVP enjoyed a successful run this past summer, helping Jurgen Klinsmann’s United States side capture the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July. Yet his future in soccer has been a prominent topic of conversation among fans and media over the last year. The USA star has been quiet in recent months, but during the debut of FOX Soccer Daily, he spoke with host Julie Stewart-Binks about enjoying the game again:
Donovan currently has 131 MLS regular-season goals, just three behind the all-time record Jeff Cunningham’s 134. The LA Galaxy will hold a press conference on Wednesday to make a "major announcement" regarding Donovan’s future.
