TORONTO (AP) The New York Yankees designated struggling left-hander Chris Capuano for assignment Saturday, three days after he was recalled from Triple-A Scranton.
Capuano hasn’t pitched for New York since giving up five runs in 2-3 of an inning in a 21-5 loss to Texas on July 28. He is 0-4 with a career-worst 6.97 ERA in 16 games, including four starts.
An 11-year veteran, Capuano has also pitched for Arizona, Boston, the New York Mets, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee.

To replace Capuano, New York recalled right-hander Caleb Cotham from Scranton. Cotham went 6-2 with a 1.89 ERA in 31 games at Double-A and Triple-A this season. He made one appearance with the Yankees, working 1 2-3 scoreless innings on July 29.
