World Series audience through 2 games highest since 2010
NEW YORK (AP) With a one-sided game in the late innings, the television audience for Game 2 of the World Series was up just 6 percent over last year.
Kansas City’s 7-1 win over the New York Mets was seen by 13.7 million viewers on Fox, up from 12.9 million for the Royals’ 7-2 victory over San Francisco in the second game of the 2014 Series. Wednesday night’s game received an 8.2 rating and 14 share, up 4 percent from a 7.9/14 for Game 2 last year.
Fox said Thursday the game’s audience increased by 1 million people in the 15 minutes starting at 10:30 p.m. EDT, when the Republican president debate ended.
The two-game average is 14.5 million viewers and an 8.7/16 rating. The audience is up 16 percent and the rating is up 14 percent over last year, when the first two games averaged a 7.6/13 and 12.5 million viewers. The two-game average rating is the highest since 2011’s 8.8/14 and the audience the most since 2010’s 14.6 million.
The rating is the percentage of television homes tuned to a broadcast, and the share is the percentage watching among households with TVs on at the time.
