Twins partnership will lead to 18,000 saplings

All those broken bats this season in Minnesota Twins games have

a silver lining.

The Twins and the state Department of Natural Resources agreed

on a ”Break a Bat, Plant a Tree” promotion at the beginning of

the season. Every time a Twins’ pitcher broke the bat of an

opposing player, 100 trees will be planted in a state park or

similar outdoors area.

When the regular season ended Sunday, Twins pitchers had broken

180 bats. That means 18,000 trees will be planted, mostly next

spring.

A number of professional sports teams have made an effort to

”go green.” The Twins plan to continue the tree promotion next

season.
