Source: Rangers signing Desmond for one year, $8 million

The Texas Rangers are signing restricted free-agent Ian Desmond to a one-year, $8 million deal, a source tells FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.

The deal, which is pending a physical, will cost the Rangers the 19th pick in the draft, but Rosenthal notes they can possibly recoup that by making Desmond a qualifying offer next season.

Desmond, a shortstop, is expected to play left field for the Rangers, but could also be used as a utility man.
