Stanton 2 HRs, Gordon hit in 10th sends Miami over Phils 6-5 (Jul 17, 2017)

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 7:13 p.m. ET

MIAMI (AP) After a couple of homers from All-Star Giancarlo Stanton kept the Marlins in the game Monday night, Miami was unable to score with the bases loaded in the ninth inning.

The Marlins loaded the bases again in the 10th, and Dee Gordon delivered with an RBI single that sent Miami over the Philadelphia Phillies 6-5.

''At first, I thought it was going in the gap, and then (right fielder Ty Kelly) got over there and I thought, `Uh oh,' but then it got down and I said, `OK it's good,''' Gordon said.

Stanton homered twice and drove in three runs for the Marlins, who ended a three-game skid.

''I thought both of his home runs were big because it puts us out front,'' Marlins manager Don Mattingly said.

Philadelphia has dropped eight of 10.

Derek Dietrich got it started in the 10th with a one-out triple off Kelly's glove.

''At first I thought he hit it out,'' Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said. ''Then I saw it kind of parachuting down, and I thought it was going to get caught and it didn't. It's what it is.''

The next two batters were intentionally walked by Mark Leiter Jr. (1-2) to load the bases.

After pinch-hitter A.J. Ellis grounded into a forceout at the plate, Gordon lined a single to right-center for the Marlins' fourth walk-off win of the season.

Drew Steckenrider (1-1) pitched a scoreless 10th for his first career victory.

Leiter was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley after the game.

The Marlins nearly won in the ninth after loading the bases with one out. After Christian Yelich struck out, Marcell Ozuna hit a liner off the leg off reliever Hector Neris, and the ball rolled right to first baseman Tommy Joseph.

''It was obviously interesting there in the ninth,'' Mattingly said. ''We had our shots.''

Nick Williams hit a two-run double during a four-run third that put the Phillies ahead 4-2.

''We got that four spot in the third after two were out,'' Mackanin said. ''That was huge.''

Stanton hit a two-run shot in the first and a solo drive in the fifth, giving him 28 home runs this season. It was his sixth multihomer game of the year and 24th of his career.

''It wasn't enough to get us (over the top),'' Stanton said. ''It was good that we showed pop today and were able to score some runs.''

Justin Bour's two-run homer in the fifth was his 21st and put the Marlins ahead 5-4.

''Honestly I wasn't worried about those two homers (to Stanton), those are going to happen,'' Phillies pitcher Jerad Eickhoff said. ''It was the Bour homer that I was most frustrated with.''

Philadelphia tied it in the seventh off Kyle Barraclough on a sacrifice fly by Cesar Hernandez, who played in his first game since June 9. Hernandez, sidelined by a left oblique strain, went 1 for 3 with a walk, scored a run and drove in one.

The Phillies loaded the bases in the eighth, but reliever David Phelps struck out Brock Stassi and pinch-hitter Daniel Nava.

''That eighth inning was tough with bases loaded, a couple strikeouts,'' Mackanin said. ''We had a good opportunity to score then.''

PERKINS WITH AN IMPRESSIVE CATCH

Philadelphia left fielder Cameron Perkins made a leaping catch up against the wall on a flyball by Stanton in the seventh despite colliding into center fielder Odubel Herrera. The two fell to the ground with Perkins still holding onto the ball.

''I was about to go for the inside-the-park if he didn't make that catch,'' Stanton said.
