Matt Holliday bloodied by fastball to the face
Matt Holliday was knocked out of the St. Louis Cardinals’ game in the sixth inning Thursday night when he was hit in the face by a fastball from San Diego’s Andrew Cashner.
Holliday dropped to the ground, spitting blood, before he was able to get up and go to first. He was removed for a pinch runner.
The Cardinals announced Holliday has facial abrasions but no broken bones and is day to day.
Aledmys Diaz’s walk-off single in the ninth inning gave the Cardinals a 6-5 come-from-behind victory Thursday night.
