Mariners prospect Victor Sanchez hospitalized after boating accident

Seattle Mariners pitching prospect Victor Sanchez was hospitalized in Venezuela following a boating accident.

The Mariners could not comment Wednesday on Sanchez’s condition, citing federal health reporting laws, but said the team was monitoring the situation. Sanchez remains in the hospital.

The accident occurred Friday in the town of Carupano, the team said.

Sanchez, a 20-year-old righthander from Venezuela, was 7-6 with a 4.19 ERA last season at Double-A Jackson. He signed with the Mariners in 2011.
