San Francisco Giants: Red Hot Start for Outfielder Jarrett Parker

The San Francisco Giants' left field spot is wide open with exactly one month until the regular season begins. Outfielder Jarrett Parker is taking full advantage of his Spring Training audition for the spot.

The San Francisco Giants' competition for the left field position is clearly a two-man race. The battle is between Mac Williamson and Jarrett Parker. So far Parker looks like the front-runner.

Obviously, it's still early and Williamson has time to earn the starting job. But if the regular season started today, more than likely Giants manager Bruce Bochy is penciling in Parker for left field.

Parker's off to a hot start this spring, with two home runs in his first four games. Impressive for someone who has only hit four homers total in his previous 58 Spring Training games.

Along with the two home runs, Parker also has six RBI, four runs and a slash line of .444/.583/1.222. In three games, Williamson's slash line is .250/.400/.250. Right now, the numbers are not even close.

On Sunday, Parker hit his first homer of the spring against Cincinnati Reds pitcher Nick Routt. His second home run came Wednesday against Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Madison Youngier. With runners on first and second, Parker unloaded on Youngier's first pitch and hit an absolute bomb over the right field wall.

In his first at-bat against Dodgers left-handed starter Scott Kazmir, Parker drilled an RBI double down the right field line off the base of the wall. In his third at-bat of the game, he hit a ball to deep center field but just got under it. He almost had another extra-base hit.

For his career, Parker owns a .267/.371/.494 slash line. Parker's hit 11 home runs, drove in 28 runs and scored 33 times. His career bWAR sits at 0.7. Is 2017 the season that the 28-year-old puts up big numbers and plays a big role for his Giants team?

Parker's showed signs of power in MLB games before. On Sept. 26, 2015, Parker exploded against the Oakland Athletics. He hit three home runs in the game, including a solo shot, a two-run homer and a game-winning grand slam in the eighth inning. A seven-RBI, three-homer game in his first MLB season showed the Giants his true potential.

If Parker keeps this play up, he'll win the starting spot in left field for the club in 2017. And if these early games are an indication, the Giants should expect big things from Parker this coming season.
