MLB rumors: News on free-agent contracts, trades and more

The off-season hot stove is warming up with trade rumors and free agency decisions coming down the pipeline. The rumor mill has picked back up after a brief lull when the passage of a new collective bargaining agreement was in question, but now that the new CBA is in place free-agent dealings will commence.

The biggest free agent taken off the market so far has been outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, who re-signed with the New York Mets this week for four years and $100 million. Top-tier relievers Kenley Jansen and Aroldis Chapman are still available.

• The Chicago White Sox and Washington Nationals continue to hammer out details of a possible Chris Sale trade, according to multiple media outlets.

• Baltimore Orioles have not close the door on re-signing free-agent catcher Matt Wieters, reports Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports. Trumbo is reportedly looking for an $80 million contract.

• Six teams are in discussions with free agent left-hander Jorge De La Rosa, SB Nation's Chris Cotillo reports.

• Milwaukee Brewers traded reliever Tyler Thornburg to the Boston Red Sox for Class-A pitcher Josh Pennington, reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

• ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reports that the Red Sox appear "very unlikely" to  go after free agent slugger Edwin Encarnacion.

• The Seattle Mariners continue talks with first baseman Mike Napoli, reports ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick.
