Royals decline to offer contract to INF Getz

The Kansas City Royals have declined to offer a 2014 contract to

second baseman Chris Getz, making him a free agent.

Getz hit .220 with a homer and 18 RBIs in 78 games last season,

when he earned $1.05 million. The 30-year-old made his major league

debut in 2008 with the Chicago White Sox and is a .251 hitter in

449 career games.

The Royals announced the decision on Monday. Teams had until

midnight to offer contracts to unsigned players on their 40-man

rosters.
