Rockies’ Gonzalez struggling at the plate, but still loves to hit

Carlos Gonzalez has been struggling lately, but he’s not mad at his bats for it. He still wraps the handles of his bats with tape “meticulously, even lovingly,” according to Rockies beat writer Thomas Harding. CarGo expressed just how much he loves to hit:

"This is my favorite thing to do," Gonzalez said. "If you're 0-for-2, 0-for-4, 0-for-15, when you get a hit, it feels really good. That's how you keep trying. If it doesn't feel that great, you just don't do it. You keep fighting every day because this is what we love, and it feels good.”

Gonzalez is hitting just .202 with two home runs and six RBIs in nearly 100 plate appearances. The outfielder denied that his slow start has anything to do with his health, instead saying that it’s about “timing.”
