Phillies Hire AA Manager, Multiple Key Staff Members

The Phillies announced multiple hirings across the organization, including a new manager for the Reading Fightin’ Phils and assistants to the general manager

With the offseason upon us, the Phillies have made some of their first major moves of the year. In a lengthy press release, the club announced several new hires in both the minor leagues and the front office.

Among the hires in the minor league systems is Greg Legg, who will manage a talented Reading Fightin’ Phils. Legg played 14 games over two seasons for the Phillies in the late-80’s, and spent 11 seasons in the Phillies minor league system as a player.

Former Reading manager, Dusty Wathan, was promoted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. John Mizerock will join the Reading coaching staff after spending time in Philadelphia.

Former Phillie Charlie Hayes will join the Gulf Coast League team as a coach.

The majority of the hires were within the Baseball Operations department, with an emphasis on international scouting. Eight hires/promotions were made in either the international scouting or coaching staff.

In the North American scouting department the Phillies hired four new scouts, including former Pirates scout Greg Schilz as the National Scouting Coordinator.

In Player Development, Frank Cacciatore was promoted to assistant hitting coordinator, and Shawn Williams was named the manager for the Williamsport Crosscutters.

Finally, the organization has bolstered the front office and analytics department. They hired Bryan Minniti away from the Diamondbacks, and promoted several staffers from within. Geoff Miller was hired as a Mental Skills Coach, and Natan Weinberger was named an Analyst in the Baseball Research and Development department.

It looks like Matt Klentak and Andy MacPhail are finally putting their own marks on the organization and making some great hires in the development and analytics departments.
