Boston’s Napoli hurts finger on slide, but X-rays are negative
Boston Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli left Tuesday night’s game against the White Sox after injuring his left ring finger sliding into second base in the ninth inning. X-rays on Napoli’s finger were negative.
With the game tied 1-1 and two outs, Napoli advanced to second on Donnie Veal’s wild pitch. Napoli slid head-first and appeared to dislocate his finger against the base.
"Yeah, I really don’t do it often. But on a play like that when I don’t know what kind of throw or what’s going to happen, and I see Alexei coming across, it’s my first instinct to try and get to the bag as quick as possible," Napoli said.
He was 1 for 3 with a walk and two strikeouts Tuesday. He is hitting .302 with three home runs and nine RBIs on the season.
