MLB Trade Rumors Projects The Pirates To Sign Andrew Cashner
Earlier this week MLB Trade Rumors released their top 50 free agents with projected destinations, and they projected the Pirates to sign Andrew Cashner.
This year’s free agent starting pitching market is very thin. However, MLB Trade Rumors is projecting the Pittsburgh Pirates to sign one of these pitchers. And this pitcher is Andrew Cashner.
MLB Trade Rumors is projecting the Pirates to sing Cashner to a one-year eight million dollar contract. Andrew Cashner is a seven year Major League veteran. Cashner spent the 2016 season split between the San Diego Padres and the Miami Marlins.
Andrew Cashner started the 2016 season with the San Diego Padres. He was then traded to Miami Marlins over the summer. And Cashner’s 2016 season did not go well.

In 132 combined innings Cashner averaged 7.64 K/9, 4.09 BB/9, 1.30 HR/9, and a 1.53 WHIP. This led to Cashner owning a 5.25 ERA, 4.84 FIP, and a 4.64 xFIP in 2016. It goes without saying that Cashner stunk in 2016.
In 726 1/3 career innings pitched Andrew Cashner has averaged 7.53 K/9, 3.16 BB/9, and 0.88 HR/9. He also owns a career WHIP of 1.32. Additionally, his career ground ball rate is just 49.2 percent.
Personally, I want no part of Andrew Cashner this offseason. The 30-year old right-handed pitcher has had plenty of opportunities to prove his Major League worth. However, he keeps failing to do so.
Hopefully, the Pirates stay far away from Cashner this offseason. I believe that he would not help the 2017 Pittsburgh Pirates.
