A source says there was a "frenzy" on Wandy Rodriguez in the last two hours. The Yankees, Red Sox and Blue Jays were all in on him late, along with some NL clubs. It seems very possible that he will be traded in August.

Orioles first baseman Derrek Lee has been traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Orioles say they have sent Lee to Pittsburgh for minor-league first baseman Aaron Baker. Lee can give the surprising Pirates a smooth-fielding first baseman with a capable right-handed bat, two things Pittsburgh could use as it tries to stay close in a crowded NL Central race. — AP

Giants acquire Cabrera from Indians

The Cleveland Indians acquired OF Thomas Neal from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for infielder Orlando Cabrera. Cabrera hit .244 (79-324) in 91 games for the Indians this season (.277OB/ .321SLG/.598OPS). Neal, 23, has hit .295 (65-220) with 13 doubles, 3 triples, 2 home runs and 25RBI in 60 games for AAA Fresno of the Pacific Coast League (.351OB/.409SLG/.761OPS) in 2011.

Indians acquire Jimenez

The Cleveland Indians on Saturday acquired Colorado Rockies ace Ubaldo Jimenez for a package of prospects, the Rockies confirmed Saturday.

Jimenez made his scheduled start against the San Diego Padres tonight but Esmil Rogers warmed up in the bullpen even before Jimenez’s first pitch and Jimenez was pulled after the first inning; he allowed four walks, two doubles and four earned runs. Kuroda could carry draft-pick compensation

By the end of this season, Hiroki Kuroda will have four years of major-league service.

But for the Dodgers — or the team that acquires him before Sunday’s non-waiver trade deadline — Kuroda will be treated as if he has six or more, like the more conventional major-league free agents. Kuroda, 36, spent 11 seasons with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp of the Japanese Central League. He isn’t credited for those years in the Major League Baseball service-time calculation.
