Report: MLB to probe A-Rod poker claims
Major League Baseball was looking Saturday into allegations that New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez played in the same illegal high-stakes poker ring that included celebrities Tobey Maguire, Leonardo DiCaprio and Ben Affleck.
A-Rod, who was admonished in 2005 by MLB for his gambling and vowed to stop, also allegedly played in a separate high-stakes game recently that had a $40,000 buy-in, according to Star magazine.
"This is the first we have heard of this, and we are looking into it," MLB spokesman Pat Courtney said.
A-Rod’s spokesman, Richard Rubenstein, denied that the Yankee played in any of the games connected to the convicted Ponzi schemer Brad Ruderman.
"Mr. Rodriguez has not participated in these poker games," he said.
