Mets fire clubhouse manager amid gambling probe
The New York Mets have fired a longtime clubhouse manager amid a
police investigation into illegal gambling.
The Mets say Charlie Samuels was fired Friday. This season was
his 27th year on the job. He also helped handle the team’s travel
The Mets said they fired Samuels for violating team policies.
The club said the decision came after an internal investigation
that lasted several months.
A person familiar with the probe by law enforcement told The
Associated Press last week that Samuels admitted to an investigator
for Major League Baseball that he bet on baseball. The person spoke
on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.
