Red Sox obtain Miller from Marlins for Richardson

Andrew Miller has been acquired by the Boston Red Sox from the Florida Marlins for Dustin Richardson in a trade of left-handed pitchers.

The 25-year-old Miller, taken by Detroit with the sixth overall pick in the 2006 amateur draft, was 1-5 with an 8.54 ERA in seven starts and two relief appearances for Florida over the final 1 1/2 months of the season. He was a combined 2-9 with a 5.35 ERA at Double-A Jacksonville and Class A Jupiter.

Miller was a teammate of Red Sox reliever Daniel Bard at North Carolina. He is 15-26 with a 5.84 ERA in five major league seasons.

The 26-year-old Richardson had a 4.15 ERA in 26 relief appearances with the Red Sox last season.

The trade was announced Friday.
