KC Royals Start Final Road Trip of 2016
The end draws near for our 2016 KC Royals and proof only needs to be seen by looking at the calendar. Kansas City heads out on their final road trip of this season, badly needing to win nearly every game they’ll play.
They’ll start in Cleveland before ending at Detroit this weekend, but again these are big games against teams in front of them.
Probable Pitching Match-Ups
Tuesday, 6:10 pm – Edinson Volquez/RHP (10-11, 5.40) v. Josh Tomlin/RHP (12-8, 4.75)
Wednesday, 6:10 pm – Ian Kennedy/RHP (11-9, 3.60) v. Corey Kluber/RHP (17-9, 3.12)
Thursday, 6:10 pm – Jason Vargas/LHP (0-0, 3.00) v. Mike Clevinger/RHP (2-2, 4.76)
Comments on Pitching Match-Ups – With big implications on this series, KC will start guys that might leave fans feeling like all is already lost. Cleveland starts a trio that’s caused troubles and are also closing in on a divisional title. Volquez, has struggled in his career versus the Tribe and is just 1-2 this season against them. Kennedy, on the other hand, is 2-1 and will face Kluber who’s 1-1 against KC this season. Vargas lasted three innings in his first start last weekend. Presumably, Ned Yost will allow Vargas more pitches than the 51 he tossed on Saturday.

Series Outlook – Kansas City finds themselves 42-22 against American League Central foes but they’re just 5-8 against Cleveland. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the Royals need to stop Francisco Lindor. He’s posted great numbers against KC in nearly every game played. Mike Napoli has also been solid and added himself to the enemies list. Kendrys Morales continues to close in on Steve Balboni‘s club record for home runs as he has been raking.
Prediction – Indians sweep
Since winning six of the first seven meetings, which were all at Progressive Field, the defending champions have won four of the past six. After the teams played the first seven games at Progressive Field and the next six at Kauffman Stadium, these teams will each host the final two series against one another as the Indians hold a 8-5 advantage.
All-time the Indians are 340-321 versus our guys. But, in the shadows of the Rock-in-Roll Hall of Fame, they are 149-185—which includes a 76-111 record at Progressive Field.
FOX Sports Kansas City will broadcast all three games with Ryan Lefebvre and Rex Hudler from beautiful Kauffman Stadium. Joel Goldberg and KC Royals Hall of Famer Jeff Montgomery host Royals Live before and after the games.
On the Royals Radio Network (610 Sports in KC) will be Royals Hall of Famer/2007 Ford C. Frick Award winner Denny Matthews who’s joined in the booth by Steve Physioc and Steve Stewart.
