Jose Fernandez’s ashes scattered at sea
The ashes of Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez were scattered at sea in Florida on Sunday, a week after he and two others died in a boating accident.
Radio Marti reported that a group of Fernandez' friends deposited his remains from a boat that had the U.S. and Cuban flags aboard.
Fernandez, 24, and his mother Maritza had discussed this as a final resting place.
Balloons and flowers were left behind at the jagged jetty off South Beach where Fernandez’s 32-foot SeaVee, Kaught Looking, was found in the early morning of Sept. 25.
“Thank you to everyone who, from the bottom of their hearts, loved my beautiful son,”Maritza Fernandez said in a note to Radio Martí.
