Posada’s son, Jorge III, suffers from craniosynostosis, which is a birth defect that causes one or more sutures on a baby’s head to close earlier than normal. The family is hopeful this will be the final surgery.
Posada went 3-for-3 Tuesday after replacing Mark Teixeira, who got hit in the knee by a pitch in the first inning.
"Hopefully he will be back [Thursday] if all goes well," general manager Brian Cashman said of Posada.
The Yankees lost 6-4 to the Red Sox in the series opener.
