Jeter in the leadoff spot, 2 hits from 3,000

Derek Jeter is back in his familiar leadoff spot as he tries for

his 3,000th career hit.

Jeter was two hits short of the milestone Saturday as the New

York Yankees faced Tampa Bay and All-Star ace David Price. The

Yankees have two games left on their homestand before the All-Star

break.

Jeter had been set to bat second Friday night against the Rays

before the game was rained out.

Third baseman Alex Rodriguez and outfielder Nick Swisher were

out of the Yankees’ lineup. Rodriguez has a tear in his right knee

and Swisher has a problem with his left quadriceps.
