Hero dad who saved son from a flying bat says he ‘just reacted’

Pirates outfielder Danny Ortiz lost his grip on the bat after a swinging strike Saturday against the Braves, and the bat sailed out of the box and into the crowd.

Shaun Cunningham was watching the game with his son, Landon, who was looking down and didn’t see the bat hurtling towards his face. Cunningham fortunately reacted in a split second and shielded his son, making for one of the best sports photos of the year from the Tribune-Review’s Christopher Horner.

Cunningham spoke to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review about the incident , and said he was just doing his job as a father.
