Do Yu even lift, bro? Darvish carrying chains, throwing left-handed at camp

The Texas Rangers are relying on Yu Darvish to come back strong from the Tommy John surgery that ruined his 2015 campaign.

By the looks of his first few days at spring training, Darvish is working hard at getting back to business and ‘game shape’. He’s also created quite a stir at the team’s facility:

On Monday, Mike Leslie of WFAA shared a video of Darvish carrying around huge, heavy chains at the Rangers’ facility in Surprise, Ariz.:

Those chains are presumably from Darvish’s workout routine, but why he chose to physically carry them around like that is a mystery (but makes for a great video).

In addition to that, Darvish also threw some pitches left-handed, after telling somebody he can throw roughly 80 mph as a southpaw:

As improbable as it is, it’d be quite a story if Darvish developed his lefty pitching substantially while he continued the slow process of Tommy John rehab with his right elbow.

Even if he’s just tossing lefty for fun, it’s a way to pass the time at spring training until he can move on to more focused work with his (primary) pitching arm…
