Cubs put pitchers Wells, Cashner on DL

The Chicago Cubs will place pitchers Randy Wells and Andrew Cashner on the 15-day disabled list because of arm injuries.

Cubs general manager Jim Hendry says the two won’t throw for two weeks and will be re-evaluated then.

Wells reported soreness after making his first start of the regular season, a 4-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, on Monday. The injury was diagnosed as a strain in his right forearm.

Cashner was pulled during the sixth inning of his first career start on Tuesday, a 6-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. He has been diagnosed with a strain in the back of the rotator cuff in his right shoulder.

MRI exams on both pitchers did not reveal any structural damage.
