Cubs place Kerry Wood on 15-day DL

The Chicago Cubs placed reliever Kerry Wood on the 15-day disabled list Friday with right shoulder fatigue, retroactive to April 14.

The 34-year-old righty struggled early this season, walking three batters on Opening Day while only retiring one, earning a blown save. He was charged with three runs and took the loss in his next appearance.

The Cubs recalled left-handed reliever Scott Maine from Triple-A Iowa to fill the roster spot.

Maine appeared in 20 games over the last two seasons with the Cubs, posting a 4.95 ERA in 20 innings pitched.

He allowed just one run in 6 1-3 innings this season at Iowa.
