Chicago Cubs News: Leadoff hitter a key?; Uehara officially signs

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 12:50 p.m. ET

The Chicago Cubs search for a new leadoff hitter is at the top of the list this offseason. Who will emerge as the new man at the top?

“You go, we go” for the Chicago Cubs has officially gone with Dexter Fowler signing with the Cardinals. Is there a favorite to take over the role in 2016? Or is the final decision even on the team as of now? Jed Hoyer sees the potential of Kyle Schwarber working out at the top. Many others think that Ben Zobrist could fill that role. Or is there a “darkhorse” not on the Cubs that the front office is looking at?

The Chicago Cubs World Series win was something made for the movies…and it is one. Shout! Factory put together a fantastic film about the World Series win, narrated by Chicago Cubs’ fan Vince Vaughan. It’s a heartwrenching look back at a series that had the Cubs on the verge of elimination–and the battle they waged to be victorious in Game 7–their first title in 108 years.

The Cubs made the signing of Koji Uehara official on Wednesday. The initial talks were rumored to be for $4.5 million for a one-year deal–although the actual terms weren’t disclosed. Uehara does have experience closing but figures to be one of several set-up men to get the game to newly acquired Wade Davis.
