Charlie Whitehurst San Diego Chargers Seattle Seahawks perennial backup

There is the random person who hits the lottery more than once. Then, there is Charlie Whitehurst.

The perennial backup quarterback bolstered his already implausible NFL career earnings by signing a two-year, $8 million deal with the Tennessee Titans on Thursday. The contract pushes Whitehurst’s career salary to the $25 million mark.

The remarkable part is what Whitehurst has done — or hasn’t — to pad his bankroll.

Whitehurst will be entering his ninth NFL season, having been selected in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He has had two stays in San Diego sandwiched by two seasons in Seattle.

Over the course of his career, Whitehurst has played in a grand total of 13 games. Over the course of his two-year, $10 million contract with the Seahawks, the Clemson product threw 155 passes in nine games, including three for touchdowns.

In San Diego, his contribution was appearances in four games over six seasons. with no stats. Zip.

How much is it per pass?
