The Red Sox have agreed to a multi-year deal with veteran outfielder Chris Young pending a physical, FOX Sports MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal reported Monday.

The deal, once official, will provide the Red Sox with protection in the outfield while Jackie Bradley Jr. and Rusney Castillo remain unproven. It will also provide the ability for the team to trade one of their outfielders.

Young, 32, batted .252 with a .773 OPS in 356 plate appearances for the Yankees last season. He hit .327 with a .972 OPS in 181 plate appearances vs. left-handed pitchers.
