Baker makes Twins postseason roster over Slowey

The Minnesota Twins have chosen right-hander Scott Baker over

righty Kevin Slowey for the final spot in the bullpen for the AL

division series against the New York Yankees.

The Twins announced their postseason roster on Wednesday,

shortly before they took on New York in Game 1.

Baker went 12-9 with a 4.49 ERA in 29 starts this season. He has

been bothered off and on by tendinitis in his pitching elbow in the

second half of the season. But Slowey lasted just 2 2-3 innings in

his final two outings of the year.

Manager Ron Gardenhire also elected to keep three utility

players – Nick Punto, Matt Tolbert and Alexi Casilla. He was

considering keeping a third catcher as insurance with Joe Mauer

having a sore left knee. But Jose Morales was left off the

roster.
