A-Rod ready for Yankee Stadium debut
New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will make his 2013 Yankee Stadium debut Friday night, and he says he couldn’t be more excited.
Between his offseason hip surgery and his recent 211-game suspension for his alleged use of performance enhancing drugs — he has appealed that punishment and will continue to play during the appeals process — A-Rod’s return to the Bronx was far from a certainty.
"All I can tell you is that it’s a day I’ve been dreaming about ever since the last postseason. Since my surgery. Since all this stuff has come out. Every single day,” Rodriguez told USA Today. "I’ve got the opportunity to put on the pinstripes and compete at Yankee Stadium once again. This is why I came back. It’s been a long time coming."
Rodriguez has been showered with boos in his first three games, which were played at US Cellular Field in Chicago. And it remains to be seen how his hometown fans, who booed him often during the 2012 postseason, will greet him.
Rodriguez has three hits (all singles), two walks, two strikeouts and no RBI in 14 plate appearances this season.
