The 28-year-old right-hander owns a 2.70 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 65:21 K:BB with six saves and 13 holds across 50 innings.

This was Barlow's second save in his last three appearances; he and Greg Holland seem to be manager Mike Matheny's favorites in Kansas City's closer committee for now. Barlow owns a 2.76 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 63:20 K:BB across 49 innings.

Impact He needed only 11 pitches (seven strikes) to carve through the bottom of Milwaukee's order. Barlow has three of his saves in July, and while he's also been charged with two blown saves this month, both came in set-up situations and not in the ninth inning. The Royals will likely continue to mix and match in the closer spot, but at the moment Barlow seems to be the top option as only Greg Holland has also picked up a save this month.

Second straight blown save Barlow allowed three runs on a hit and two walks with one strikeout in one inning, taking a blown save in Thursday's 7-4 loss to Cleveland.

Impact Barlow pitched the eighth inning, but he wasn't able to get through it without giving up a three-run home run to Cleveland catcher Roberto Perez. This was Barlow's second blown save in as many outings, although he avoided taking the loss as he did Wednesday versus Cincinnati. The right-hander has a 2.95 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 60:19 K:BB through 42.2 innings this season. With both Barlow and Greg Holland struggling recently, Josh Staumont or Kyle Zimmer could see more high-leverage work in Kansas City's closing committee.

Impact Barlow entered the seventh inning with the Royals holding a 2-0 lead and a runner on first, but he was unable to sustain that advantage and by the time he departed the game, Kansas City was already down a run. He began his outing allowing three straight hits, including the game's deciding hit -- a two-run double from Jonathan India. He was able to settle down afterward, but the damage was already done. This was the first time Barlow gave up more than one run since April 12.

Impact Barlow had the task to defend a three-run lead in the top of the ninth inning and while he allowed Jorge Polanco to snatch a one-out single, he closed things out by striking out Nick Gordon and inducing Nelson Cruz to a groundout. Barlow has gone 4-for-5 in save chances this season and also has 11 holds, but perhaps the most important thing to note going forward is that he's been given the ball in each of the last two games where the Royals have needed a save. However, the Royals still seem to be deploying a committee approach to closing duties and that could continue to limit the upside of all the relievers involved.
