Fifth homer in six games Castellanos went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 3-2 win over Cleveland.
Impact Fresh off being named NL Player of the Week, Castellanos nearly hit two more. He just got under one his first time up, but did not miss his second time up against right-hander Zach Plesac. Castellanos was batting out of the three hole for the first time in a Reds uniform.

Two more homers Castellanos went 3-for-7 with a walk, two home runs, three RBI and two runs scored across both games of Sunday's doubleheader against the Tigers.
Impact Castellanos was the story of the matinee; he slugged two homers against his former team in the first three innings but then made a bad error in the outfield which led to three unearned runs against Lucas Sims. Cincinnati won anyway, and it's easy to forgive Castellanos for one lowlight given all the highlights he has provided so far. The 28-year-old has hit safely in all nine games and is tied for fourth in the majors in RBI with 11.

Takes loss Sunday Jimenez (0-1) was charged with the loss in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Reds. He allowed one run on three hits with no walks or strikeouts in one inning.
Impact After Detroit tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a Nick Castellanos error, Jimenez gave the lead right back the next half inning. He is 4-for-4 in save chances on the young season, but Jimenez is worth keeping a close eye on as his velocity is down a tick and the swing-and-miss has been noticeably absent (just two swinging strikes on 17 pitches Sunday).

Appealing COVID-19 protocols Moustakas and teammate Nick Senzel plan to appeal to a select panel of league and union representatives Wednesday regarding their MLB-mandated absences as a result of their self-re...
Impact Though both players have been held out of action since reporting their symptoms, neither has received a positive result on multiple COVID-19 tests, leaving both to believe they should be eligible to play for the Reds. Moustakas and Senzel's teammate, Nick Castellanos, relayed after Tuesday's game against the Cubs that both are unable to play until Thursday due to the current protocols in place, but a favorable ruling by the league and union committee Wednesday could expedite their returns.

First homer as a Red Castellanos went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, two RBI and one run scored Tuesday against the Cubs.
Impact Castellanos began his night at the plate with a double in the second inning. He followed that up in the fourth frame with the highlight of his performance, taking an Alec Mills offering to the opposite field for his first home run of the season and as a member of the Reds. Castellanos has swung the bat fairly well to start the season, recording at least one hit in each of the team's five contests.

Works six strong innings Mills (1-0) allowed two earned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out three across six innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Reds.
Impact Mills worked very efficiently, requiring only 77 pitches to complete his evening of work. The only damage against him came on a two-run home run by Nick Castellanos in the fourth inning. While Mills did not generate a lot of strikeouts, he did force groundball outs, helping him limit the damage when contact was made. While Jose Quintana (thumb) continues to ramp up, Mills should stick in the Cubs' rotation. His next start is currently projected for Sunday against the Pirates.

Provides Opening Day homer Votto went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 7-1 win over the Tigers.
Impact Both hits were off lefty Matthew Boyd. Votto had one home run against a left-handed pitcher all of last season (144 plate appearances), so this was an encouraging way to kick off the 2020 campaign for the veteran. He is batting in the two hole ahead of Eugenio Suarez and Nick Castellanos.

Playing outfield in exhibition game Castellanos (back) will bat fifth and play right field in Tuesday's exhibition game against the Tigers.
Impact Castellanos has been dealing with a sore back since getting hit by a pitch in Friday's intrasquad game, but the issue never appeared to be particularly serious. He could be used as a designated hitter early in the year if not considered fully healthy, though his presence in right field Tuesday indicates he'll be set to fill the same role when the regular season kicks off Friday.

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Nick Castellanos says he's ready to go after scary hit-by-pitch Nick Castellanos revealed Monday how scary the hit-by-pitch he took in Friday’s intrasquad game was: “I couldn’t really feel my arms.”
JULY 20, 2020 • CINCINNATI.COM
Not expected to miss time Castellanos (back) is expected to be ready or Opening Day on Friday against the Tigers, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
Impact Castellanos left an intrasquad game Friday after getting hit in the upper back by a pitch and remains day-to-day. Manager David Bell said Monday that he was "pretty confident" that Castellanos would be available for the start of the season, however. The outfielder mentioned previously that part of his reason for joining the Reds this offseason was due to the fact that he doesn't want to be a designated hitter (despite his poor defensive reputation), though he'd presumably be willing to fill that role for a few days at the start of the campaign if he's healthy enough to hit but not take the field.
JULY 20, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Day-to-day with back injury Castellanos (back) is day-to-day, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
Impact He was expected to return to action for Sunday's intrasquad game but was having trouble getting loose and is still sore, so he will sit for the second day in a row. If Castellanos is not ready for Opening Day, Phillip Ervin, Mark Payton and Josh VanMeter could be options to see extra playing time.
JULY 19, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Still out Sunday Castellanos (back) is not in the lineup for Sunday's intrasquad game.
Impact He exited Friday's game and was held out Saturday but was expected to return to action in this scrimmage, so his absence is noteworthy. It is unclear whether his absence is precautionary or if his back is really ailing him. For now, Castellanos should be considered day-to-day.
