Los Angeles Angels Player News: Pitchers

News: Suarez was officially recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday and will start against the Astros.
Impact: As expected, Suarez was summoned to the big leagues to take the place of Griffin Canning (elbow) in the starting rotation. He owns an unimpressive 6.75 ERA and 1.69 WHIP with a 53:22 K:BB over 53.1 innings this season in the majors.
News: Canning was diagnosed with mild inflammation of his right elbow joint, and he will be shut down for the rest of the season.
Impact: It's good that he is only dealing with mild inflammation, which will allow him to proceed with a "rest and recover" route rather than surgery. However, he won't pitch again this season, so he can be cut loose in all redraft leagues. Canning had a 4.58 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 96 strikeouts in 90.1 innings during his rookie year. Jose Suarez is replacing him in the rotation.
News: Mejia cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.
Impact: The 26-year-old left-hander surrendered four earned runs and issued three walks across three innings of work since being claimed off waivers Aug. 8 by the Angels.
News: Suarez will be called up to start Friday's game in Houston.
Impact: Suarez has a 6.75 ERA (6.59 FIP) in 53.1 MLB innings, working almost exclusively as a starter, so he should be avoided in most matchups anyway. With a matchup in Houston, he should avoided in essentially all fantasy formats. He is making the start in place of Griffin Canning (elbow inflammation). The Angels won't need a fifth starter again in August, so Suarez may be sent back to the minors after Friday's outing.
