Impact Rather than being limited to short-side platoon duty at the position with Magneuris Sierra, the righty-hitting Brinson looks like he'll stick in the lineup against both right- and left-handed pitching while Marte is on the mend. Per Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald, Brinson will bat eighth in Tuesday's game against the Orioles, and he'll likely have a tough time breaking out of a bottom-third spot in the lineup if his track record at the big-league level is any indication. Over 829 career plate appearances in parts of five seasons in the majors, Brinson owns a .187/.240/.300 slash line and a 29.4 percent strikeout rate.

Impact Brinson was on the bench for the past two games, but he'll draw back into the lineup as a replacement in the outfield for the lefty-hitting Matt Joyce, who sits with a southpaw (Max Fried) on the mound for Atlanta. Expect Brinson to continue filling a short-side platoon role for Miami in what remains of the team's regular-season schedule and subsequent playoff run.

Impact Brinson will be rewarded with a second straight start after turning in his best game of the season Saturday, when he went 2-for-3 with a double in the Marlins' 2-1 loss. The hits were Brinson's first of the season, as the 26-year-old went 0-for-16 over his first eight games with the club. Corey Dickerson's (personal) recent move to the bereavement list should temporarily open up some steady work for Brinson, but he'll likely shift back to a more permanent bench role once Dickerson is reinstated to the active roster.

Limited action since return Brinson has gone hitless in eight at-bats while starting in three of the Marlins' eight games since he returned from 10-day injured list Aug. 4.

Impact The owner of a 29.5 percent career strikeout rate, Brinson has struck out only once in his nine plate appearances, but there isn't much else positive to say about his early-season performance. More troubling for Brinson is the fact that he hasn't even gotten a longer look from the Marlins, who have chosen to play a 36-year-old on an expiring deal (Matt Joyce) as their primary option in right field over him. Since the Marlins view Brinson as a better defensive fit in right field and Monte Harrison is getting a spin as the team's everyday center fielder, Brinson looks like he'll be limited to short-side platoon work for the time being. Unless Brinson catches fire at the plate in his limited opportunities, he'll be a candidate to move back to the team's alternate training site once Harold Ramirez and/or Garrett Cooper return from the COVID-19 injured list.

Impact While the 24-year-old continues to help his case with an impressive first week of summer camp, Harrison's path to a starting job is also getting clearer thanks to the absence of other players. Neither Matt Joyce nor Lewis Brinson has made an appearance in camp yet, and if they remain unavailable through Opening Day or simply aren't ready due to a delayed start to camp, Harrison would likely only need to beat out Harold Ramirez to claim the job. Harrison posted a strong .274/.357/.451 slash line through 56 games at Triple-A last season with nine homers and 20 steals in 22 attempts.
