Impact The only run against Sheffield came in the third inning on a Manny Machado RBI single. Other than that, the 24-year-old Sheffield was effective at quieting the Padres' big bats. He lowered his ERA to 3.75 with a 1.29 WHIP and 47:18 K:BB across 50.1 innings this year. The lefty is expected to get one more start in the regular season during next Saturday's doubleheader versus the Athletics.

Impact Though he was unable to land in the win column, Sheffield's outing was a nice bounceback performance after he allowed six earned runs in his previous start. He was in line for a victory until his final frame, when he yielded a solo home run to Anderson Tejeda. The right-hander picked up his fourth quality start -- all of which have come in his last five appearances -- and now holds a 4.34 ERA on the season. He'll face the Diamondbacks on the road next Saturday.

Impact Sheffield hadn't allowed a home run in his first five starts of 2020, but he finally got bit by the long ball Saturday, as Angels prospect Jo Adell took him deep for his first career home run in the second inning. The lefty wasn't able to rebound thereafter, with his shaky control -- he threw 55 of his 98 pitches for strikes -- being his biggest issue. "He was ahead in the count - that's probably the most exciting thing," Servais said. "Tonight, Sheff 0-2 and 1-2 in 75% of the hitters he faced. That's what it's going to take, trusting your stuff and just pounding the strike zone."
