One out away from quality start Sheffield (5-4) earned the win Thursday against the Angels after allowing two runs on six hits and three walks while fanning seven across 5.2 innings.
Impact Sheffield ended just one out away from recording what would've been his fourth quality start of the season, but it's worth noting he's given up just two earned runs in four of his last six outings. He owns a 4.41 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP since the beginning of May.

Allows two in five innings Sheffield (4-4) won Friday's 3-2 game with Texas, going five innings and permitting two runs on six hits and two walks with one strikeout.
Impact Sheffield was far from dominant in the win and tired as the game progressed, allowing a single run in both the fourth and fifth. He's alternated wins and losses in his last seven starts and remains a mediocre option with a 4.96 ERA.

Surrenders five in loss Sheffield (3-4) took the 6-4 loss Saturday to the Padres, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits and five walks with three strikeouts.
Impact Sheffield allowed a single run through the game's first four innings but broke down in the fifth, allowing six base runners and five runs in a poor final inning. He was efficient with 91 pitches despite a season-high five walks which may be the only Brightside to an otherwise subpar outing. A 5.11 ERA is below average, but he remains an upside option for a young Seattle team.
MAY 23, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Solid effort for third win Sheffield (3-3) was credited with the win over the Indians on Saturday, allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out two.
Impact Taking the hill following his worst outing of the season last Sunday against the Rangers, Sheffield authored a strong bounce-back effort that saw him garner his third quality start of the season. The left-hander stayed away from the long ball altogether for the third time in the last four trips to the mound,, and both runs he surrendered came on groundouts. Having gotten his record back to .500, Sheffield will look for his fourth victory of the season in a tough road matchup against the Padres either Friday or Saturday.
MAY 16, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Surrenders five runs in loss Sheffield (2-3) allowed seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits while striking out five over five innings in a loss to the Rangers on Sunday.
Impact Sheffield allowed just one run prior to the fifth, when the Rangers put up six more on him after Charlie Culberson led off the inning with a solo home run and Adolis Garcia capped it off with a three-run blast. The 25-year-old pitched a gem last weekend against the Angels but has sandwiched that outing with a pair of horrendous starts in which he's combined to allow nine runs on 22 hits while striking out nine in 10.1 innings. He gives up plenty of hard contact and doesn't generate enough swings and misses to be a reliable fantasy option, but he at least has a good chance for a bounceback performance against Cleveland later in the week.

MAY 9, 2021 • Associated Press
Shuts out Angels over six innings Sheffield (2-2) allowed two hits and three walks with four strikeouts over six scoreless innings in a 2-0 win over the Angels on Sunday.
Impact Sheffield had his strongest start of the season after limiting the Angels to just two hits following an outing in which he was knocked around for a career-worst 12 hits in a loss to the Astros. The 25-year old did struggle with his command at times, as he hit a batter in each of the first two innings and surrendered three walks. He was able to pitch himself out of a couple of potential scoring threats and lowered his ERA to a 4.18. He's lined up to face the Rangers on the road his next time out.

Sheffield expected to start as Mariners host the Angels

Roughed up for 12 hits Sheffield (1-2) took the loss Monday against the Astros, surrendering five runs (four earned) on 12 hits and a walk while striking out four across 5.1 innings.
Impact Facing Houston for the second time in his career, Sheffield couldn't find a way to stop the Astros at the plate, scattering a career-worst 12 hits in the process. However, the 24-year-old was able to keep the ball on the ground as he did not allow any home runs for the first time this season. Overall this year, Sheffield sports a 5.32 ERA and 1.59 WHIP across 22 innings of work. The southpaw is lined up to make his next start at home Sunday against the Angels.

Earns win Monday Sheffield (1-1) allowed three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six over 5.2 innings to pick up the win against the Dodgers on Monday.
Impact Sheffield encountered his first troublesome inning in the third, when he allowed a two-out double to Mookie Betts before Corey Seager got the Dodgers on the scoreboard with a two-run blast to center that cut the Mariners' lead to 3-2. The 24-year-old began to lose his control a bit in the sixth, as he surrendered a leadoff walk to Justin Turner and hit Chris Taylor with a slider that got away from him before eventually allowing Turner to score on an RBI single by Zach McKinstry to make it a 4-3 ballgame. Sheffield was then replaced in the game by Will Vest, who struck out Luke Raley to end the inning and preserve the one-run lead for the Mariners. It hasn't been the cleanest start to the season, as he's allowed a home run and at least two walks in all three outings thus far, but Sheffield still did well enough to grab his first win. He'll take a 4.86 ERA and 16:7 K:BB into his next scheduled start against the Astros on Monday.

Impact The young southpaw was in line for his first win of the season, exiting the game after 77 pitches (45 strikes) with a 3-2 lead, but Rafael Montero blew the save in the seventh inning. Sheffield will take a 4.91 ERA and 10:4 K:BB through 11 innings into his next outing, set for Sunday at home against the Astros.
APRIL 14, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Monday's game postponed Sheffield will not make his scheduled start Monday since the game between Seattle and Baltimore has been postponed due to inclement weather, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Impact Monday's game will be made up right away Tuesday as part of a doubleheader. Look for Sheffield to simply move back a day to start one half of the twin bill.
APRIL 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Struggles in opening start Sheffield (0-1) took the loss against the White Sox on Monday after allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out five over five innings.
Impact Sheffield allowed the White Sox to get on the board in the second inning when he threw a hanging slider that Yasmani Grandal sent sailing over the left field fence. The 24-year-old then imploded in the fourth when five straight Sox hitters reached base to put the Mariners in a 4-0 hole. Sheffield came back out for the fifth and was punished yet again by Grandal, who smacked a two-run single up the middle to make it a 6-0 ballgame. It wasn't a pretty first outing, but Sheffield did record all five of his strikeouts via the slider and should have better outings down the line as he continues to get comfortable and establishes more command with his offspeed pitches. He's next scheduled to take the bump in Baltimore on April 12.
APRIL 6, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Solid effort versus champs Sheffield allowed two earned runs on four hits and three walks over 4.2 innings in a Cactus League win over the Dodgers on Monday. He struck out five.
Impact Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports Sheffield worked up to 78 pitches in what was his penultimate start of spring, Sheffield's trademark location issues were mostly under control Monday, although two of his walks did come with two outs. The left-hander lines up to take the mound for the final time before Opening Day this coming weekend.

Bounces back in third turn Sheffield fired four scoreless innings in a Cactus League win over the Royals on Tuesday, allowing two hits and two walks while recording six strikeouts.
Impact The talented southpaw showed some grit while bouncing back from a forgettable outing against the Rangers last Wednesday, when he'd been tagged for six earned runs over just 2.1 innings. Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports Sheffield was determined for a resurgence after that showing, noting he sharpened his focus and approached Tuesday's turn as a regular-season start. "I was definitely itching to get back out there, especially after that last one," he said. "I feel like the last one I didn't really bring enough energy."
MARCH 18, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Struggles in second start Sheffield allowed six earned runs on seven hits and three walks while failing to record a strikeout over 2.1 innings during a Cactus League loss to the Rangers on Wednesday.
Impact Sheffield got Cactus League play started on the right foot with a pair of scoreless innings versus the Rockies on Thursday, but Wednesday's outing was about as disastrous as the line implies. The left-hander has battled control issues dating back to his minor-league days, so the location problems versus the Rangers are disappointing, as are the pair of home runs he surrendered to Jose Trevino and Eli White.
MARCH 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Impresses in spring debut Sheffield fired two scoreless innings in Thursday's Cactus League game against the Rockies, allowing two hits and no walks while recording a strikeout.
Impact The young left-hander picked up right where he left off after an impressive 2020, getting his six outs in comfortable fashion. Sheffield posted a solid 3.58 ERA across 10 starts a season ago, and he exhibited better control than during his 2019 debut campaign. The 24-year-old projects for the No. 4 role in the starting rotation to open the season.
MARCH 6, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Set for spring debut Sheffield, the Mariners' projected No. 4 starter, will make his first Cactus League appearance Thursday versus the Rockies, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Impact The young left-hander will look to build on a highly encouraging 2020 campaign this coming season, with Sheffield having shown considerable improvement from his seven-start cameo in 2019 by posting a 4-3 record and 3.58 ERA across 10 starts. Sheffield focused much more on honing his location last season, resulting in a drop in BB/9 from 4.5 in 2019 to 3.2, as well as a significant reduction in ERA from the 5.50 figure he generated in his first exposure to big-league bats.
