Winker will head to the bench against lefty Wade Miley and the Astros on Monday.
Winker sits for the second time in three games, though he should be in line for an extended run of starts the rest of the week as the Reds face six straight righties. Phillip Ervin starts in left field.
Winker went 4-for-5 with a double, home run and five RBI in an 11-3 victory against the Rangers on Sunday.
This performance snapped a streak where Winker went 0-for-6 during a four-game span. With the four hits, Winker's average is now as high as it's been all season. The five RBI was also a season high and matched the total he recorded in the category during all of May. Winker is hitting .244 with 11 home runs, 23 RBI and 31 runs in 205 at-bats this season.
Winker is on the bench for the second straight game Saturday against the Rangers.
Winker will sit against lefty Mike Minor. The newly recalled Phillip Ervin will take over in left field.
Winker is not starting against Texas on Friday.
Winker rarely sits against righties, but he'll do so against opener Jesse Chavez on Friday, with the Reds evidently wanting to protect against a lefty pitching behind Chavez. Jose Peraza gets the start in left field.
Winker went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored Thursday against the Cardinals.
Winker has reached base safely in eight of his last 10 contests, boosting his batting average by 17 points over that span. The 25-year-old has pieced together a .238/.316/.443 with 10 homers and 18 RBI through 55 games this season.
